Northstone's Alternative Fuel Team have worked with landfill diversion projects since 2009, and our alternative fuels are derived from non-recyclable waste. Utilizing waste as a source of energy increases recycling while reducing CO2 emissions and the use of fossil fuels.

Northstone is servicing the power industry in Scandinavia with renewable-derived fuels from forestry by-products. Our raw material is not suitable for paper or timber products, which ensures that we utilize a maximum amount of the tree.

Northstone also owns GreenTech Partner, a company working with land clearance projects and harvesting of tree stumps. Forest residues and stumps are processed at two sites in Stockholm to maximize logistical efficiency. Processed material is delivered to power plants across Scandinavia.

Northstone offers disposal options for bottom ash produced at waste-to-energy plants or biomass plants. Sorted ash is used for engineering projects within the Infrastructure group at Northstone or for soil stabilization projects. Fly ash from energy plants is transported in sealed containers to certified disposal sites.

Northstone facilitates the transportation of by-products from power plants by setting up notifications and organizing transportation with complete recycling or disposal solutions.

Northstone offers recycling and disposal options for contaminated soil through our network of licensed recycling facilities across Scandinavia or as backfill to infrastructure projects. Our service includes project support, testing and classification of soil, managing notifications required for cross-border shipments, and complete logistical solutions to end-user destinations. Northstone works according to European standards for disposal and recycling of contaminated soil.
